Kumquats: Cute, little, oval-shaped, edible
fruit that closely resemble an orange.

After the weekly color reveal on Project 64, I am
always hypervigilant for that week's color. In the produce
section, during my weekly grocery shopping, the
Kumquats caught my eye as they were a perfect little
specimen of yellow-orange.

According to Wikipedia - "Kumquats are often eaten raw. As the rind is sweet and the juicy centre is sour, the raw fruit is usually consumed either whole—to savour the contrast—or only the rind is eaten. The fruit is considered ripe when it reaches a yellowish-orange stage and has just shed the last tint of green."

I have one daughter who is up for trying anything. So...we each popped one in our mouths at the same time. Wow! That little bugger was so sour! She spit hers right out (I did finish mine). We decided to try another and the next one was much sweeter for both of us.

They were quite the hit. The girls had friends over through the weekend and they all took turns trying them, though I think more were spit out then actually fully eaten.

This last picture is my submission for P64 this week.

  1. My son is an adventurous eater, too, and once he begged for some kumquats at the store. I'd never tried them, but how bad could they be? So I bought them. The rinds on ours were extremely bitter. I tried a few before I gave up and threw them out, and Wyatt wouldn't give them a second chance. Glad yours ended up halfway sweet! Beautiful pictures of them, nonetheless!

  2. I just tryed this little things a couple of weeks ago. My son't preschool teacher always encourages kids to try something new so she brought some to class and my son actually like them which is huge since he also is a picky earter thought he seems to be getteing better. Recently he asked for mushroons while at the grocery store and ate most of them after he help cook them. Great match up of the color!

  3. I love your choice of this great color! Great shots!!!

  4. I've never tried them, but they are perfect for this weeks color! Thanks for linking up!

  5. I love the first picture. What would you recommend for getting such a nice blurred background? Wonder if the fruit would be too sour to use in a glaze of some sort.
