Kumquats.

Kumquats: Cute, little, oval-shaped, edible
fruit that closely resemble an orange.

After the weekly color reveal on Project 64, I am
always hypervigilant for that week's color. In the produce
section, during my weekly grocery shopping, the
Kumquats caught my eye as they were a perfect little
specimen of yellow-orange.

According to Wikipedia - "Kumquats are often eaten raw. As the rind is sweet and the juicy centre is sour, the raw fruit is usually consumed either whole—to savour the contrast—or only the rind is eaten. The fruit is considered ripe when it reaches a yellowish-orange stage and has just shed the last tint of green."

I have one daughter who is up for trying anything. So...we each popped one in our mouths at the same time. Wow! That little bugger was so sour! She spit hers right out (I did finish mine). We decided to try another and the next one was much sweeter for both of us.

They were quite the hit. The girls had friends over through the weekend and they all took turns trying them, though I think more were spit out then actually fully eaten.

This last picture is my submission for P64 this week.

The Poppy.

I just planted some Poppies. The papery petals
and the vibrant colors are just lovely.

My choice for B&W Wednesdays below.

I think the next photo may be my favorite. I turned the ISO to 200 and took this at 11:00 a.m. I can't get over
how the poppy appears to be glowing.

My pick for Vibrant Colors at Live Every Moment is below.

Have a fantastic Memorial Day Weekend!

(Grilled) Asparagus.

Now that the weather is warmer, grilling is our
preferred manner of cooking dinner.
Favorite veggie...Asparagus.

Clean and cut off the "woody" ends.

Next, coat lightly with olive oil and season with sea salt.
Drizzle with balsamic vinegar.

Place on grill; low heat.

Grill until tender, retaining a slight crunch.

MMmm...nothing like it.

This last picture is my submission for this week's
Project 64 pick...asparagus. More asparagus color
matches can be found by clicking the
Project 64 link below.

Monkeying Around at the Playground.

Oh what fun two girls can have on a spring
afternoon at the playground.

Blowing dandelion seeds at eachother...

...doing a balancing act on the bars...

...swinging and then seeing how far they can jump...

...and just being plain silly on the slide.

What fun to be a kid!

Child's Play: Cerulean.

Participating in Project 64 has been so eye-opening for me.
Searching for a new color each week has afforded me the
opportunity to become much more aware of not only colors
around me but also detail and textures.
So ... as I was waiting in the car line to pick my girls up from school,
I couldn't help but notice the playground contained
cerulean-colored equipment! Perfect-o!
My daughter and one of her best buds enjoyed a beautiful afternoon
at the playground while I got in some practice time and found my
Cerulean match for the week. Thanks girls! :D

It was supposed to rain all day, so the sun and playground time was a bonus!
I'll work on getting a few more shots up soon.

Sun-kissed Dogwood.

This week was gorgeous weather-wise. Sun everyday,
warm-to-hot temperatures ... my cup of tea!

So two years ago, we planted a dogwood tree in front of our home. It's just
beautiful when it blooms - the half that does, anyway. This is the second tree we've
planted in this very spot that only half blooms. We're not sure if it's the location, the soil
or what exactly. I am, however, enjoying the beauty of the half that is still living.

Tumbleweed.

This week's color for Project 64: Tumbleweed. I figured this color
would be an easy find. How wrong I was!!

I had THE most difficult time! Finally, as I was mowing the lawn,
(one of my favorite summertime activities...really),  I had to duck
so as not to smack my face on a branch of my River Birch.
It was then, that I spotted the "fruit" dangling right before me.
Hence, this week's submission.
